An industrial-style attic with wooden interior

An attic in the centre of Bergamo whose industrial setting meets the warm and welcoming taste of the wooden interior. Contemporary lines combine metallic materials with modern furnishings.

Project: Cesare Grasseni and Modulor
Year: 2015
Site: Bergamo

A renovation in the centre of Bergamo where the architectural layout organized on two levels maintains the original height of the internal wooden rooms. By accessing the entrance whose ceiling has been kept lower in respect of the original architectural configuration, the stylistic sign of the space is clearly visible. As display niches, the exposed stonewalls maintain their traditional imprint, emerging in the room. The hidden lighting in the profile of the wall enhances its depth and underlines the material nature of this insert as a real natural picture. The view therefore opens onto the large double-height living room, topped by a ceiling with exposed beams in a warm wood.

An IPA beam underlines both the structural and the visual border between the mezzanine sleeping area and the living area below with the kitchenette. The latter has contemporary lines and colours focused on neutral tones. Two visual characteristics make it recognizable: the white Corian, which from the countertop with recessed sink extends to the rear shelf, also goes down along the side profile acting as a perceptive closure shoulder of the room. And the upper wall units, which instead emphasize a horizontal setting whose dynamism is represented by the diagonal shelf that visually cuts the service support. The 50s Smeg refrigerator and coloured wooden chairs give a touch of colour with a retro taste. Placed in the adjacent corner, the bathroom is characterized by a cabinet with U-shaped polished steel legs and wooden covering. The latter is exact the same floor material, thus presenting the identical finish and essence, in material continuity. With their rough finish, the walls underline the industrial firm.

A Corten staircase with recessed backlit handrail with essential style, bring to the sleeping area. A walk-in closet in satin glass and metal profiles precedes the bedroom. A library consisting of essential lines runs along the balustrade of the mezzanine. A system of interlocking coloured Plexiglas volumes allows the dynamic and personalized use of this piece of furniture. The bedroom takes advantage of the intimacy of the exposed beams and the inclination of the ceiling with wooden cladding. It is equipped with essential furnishings such as TV cabinet in matt gray lacquered MDF, recalling the interior furniture of the walk-in closet, with contemporary profiles.

Contemporary pop with industrial elements

A fresh and contemporary apartment around which an industrial architectural context has been recreated, characterized by visual structures in metal and crystal.

Project: Modulor
Year: 2014
Site: Villa di Serio

A very recent apartment overlooking the hills of Scanzorosciate is part of a contemporary housing complex characterized by an architecture that plays on staggered floors. Hence the idea of also moving its interior. This project was followed by the initial construction site and it was precisely in that phase that it was decided to give light to the living area by opening a portion of the slab to make it one with the upper attic part. The entrance, which has a subtle and spotlight false ceiling, gives a wide breath to the house, which looks like an open space. A beautiful aerial staircase with an iron structure painted in anthracite gray and polished steel handrails guides the gaze towards the upper part of the apartment: the study-library that overlooking the living room. In order to create a continuation of materials, the staircase connects to a small balcony in painted iron and crystal, which lets the light beams filter from the velux above through to the corner sofa downstair.

These industrial elements matches with a furniture with clean strokes features, almost essential, characterized by a suspended office cabinet and a low and containing TV cabinet in light gray tones. The walls and the brightly colored walls stand out chromatically.
Concerning the livingroom, it’s the orange to be chosen, a colour that expresses vitality, dynamism and expansion. The Space Branch modular system of shelves above the television is also lacquered in orange with a contemporary appearance.

The total white kitchen express its essential nature with a Corian countertop, which merge into the sink basins and the laser-engraved drainer. The lacquering of the columns, the lower part, the wall units and the glossy lacobel on the back provide more brightness. In contrasting colours, the ion hood, the hob and the Smeg ovens are completely black. An essential room which distinctive elements are recognizable for their pop style, such as the Omelette table, that stands out provinding an extra creative touch. The floors are also interesting, where oak parquet rugs are interspersed with medium gray stoneware, which also enters the bathrooms. These are characterized by tiles from the Tex collection by Mutina laid on design. In the master bathroom the suspended medium gray lacquered main cabinet has a thin white Corian top that moves on two floors and two different depths. Towards the entrance, it in fact  becomes lower and less deep. In the upper part, beside a large mirror, there are closed and open cubes lacquered in white and gray. In the service bathroom there is a small white shaped cabinet with side drawer, also with a very thin Corian cover. The laundry niche in the corridor is very functional, hidden by symmetrically woven doors that hide the opening from view.

The bedroom is characterized by an acid green background, an harmonious color symbol of growth, renewal and hope, which perfectly fits with bedside tables, chest of drawers and a white lacquered front wardrobe. To conclude, the study area in the attic where two tables with anthracite gray painted iron structure match both the structure of stairs and balcony and that of the shoulders of the wall bookcase, in the same color. On the other hand, the shelves and the two pieces of furniture on the ridge side, shaped flush with the ceiling, are white. A touch of color in the chairs and in the textured red sofa bed available for guests.

An “exchange” open-air bookcase with a particular shape, the one of a spaceship, designed for children with the aim of encouraging the habit of reading.

Elle Effe Elle is the LFL project: “Little Free Library, take a book, leave a book!” which aims to encourage children to read more often and more willingly. A project that stems from a need, the one of  Villa di Serio’s Preschool, which involved Traiettorie Instabili, a very active cultural association within the community and Officina Idee studio for the design part. The aim was to make the object attractive to the target, for this reason the two architects Giovanni and Paolo dedicated themselves mainly to selecting that element of childhood fantasy that could be closest to them and they established that a small spaceship could be the winning solution. And so Elle Effe Elle was born, it is consisting of a central cylindrical part that contains the shaped shelf on which the books are placed and in support of the telescopic steel legs. The circular shape minimizes the presence of edges and being forced to slip under the shell to grasp its contents, increases the curiosity of the little ones. The spaceship is equipped with a transparent cover which, in addition to bringing natural light inside the passenger compartment, makes those who enter and look up towards the sky feel just as if they were in a real spaceship. Elle Effe Elle is also a rhyming book for children, conceived and created by Alice Tebaldi, which tells the story of two nice aliens, Bi and Ci and at the same time explains in a simple and fun way what is the purpose of the spaceship and how to use it. Modulor took care of the realization of all that was the wooden and metal furniture part of the steel telescopic legs.

Luxury details for an industrial space

A refined combination of luxury finishes and industrial style furnishings give life to suggestive rooms with a modern taste.

Project: CLS Architects
Year: 2014
Site: Alba

Industrial style is reinterpreted in this CLS Architects project with an attention to details and luxury finishes. This is how the kitchen adorns its steel doors with shaped handles and a light veined marble covers the countertop. Equipped with every comfort ranging from a large ceramic hob to a large recessed oven, it underlines its preciousness with a built-in sink in material continuity with the kitchen top.

The living area is also enriched with velvet furnishings and tables with golden finishes that contrast the back wall with exposed bricks and walled mullioned windows. A calibrated juxtaposition between two opposite styles that define the characterizing sign of this apartment.
Full-height bookcase adorn the walls of the living area with frescoed ceilings and classic profiles of the false ceiling, with a white leather sofa placed in the center.

The bathroom sees an explosion of luxury style with veined white marble that invade walls and floors. A large shower placed on the corner gives lightness to the room with glass surfaces and a mirroring stainless steel profile. The latter also covers the service cabinet with irregular slabs that give the room breath and brightness. Even the walk-in closet does not give up preciousness in the finishes with burnished brass handles that enrich the doors in matt lacquered MDF. An important chandelier caught attention by enhancing the ceiling frescoes.

Industrial interior with a touch of colour

A contemporary industrial style apartment with essential lines and a touch of colour. A vivid personality that alternates elements with rough finishes with decisive colours combinations.

Project: CLS Architects
Year: 2014
Site: Alba

The meeting of different styles balances the interior of this private apartment where colour becomes the stylistic firm.
Between modern furniture and industrial finishes, an almost scenographic project of the CLS Architects studio comes to life. The living room looks like a very large environmnt with high ceilings, on the bottom of which took place the dining table enriched by an important modern chandelier. On the side wall we can find large windows, which provide natural lighting and a very delicate and essential staircase leading to the sleeping area.

On the front, full-height elements recalling the uniform black floor for finishes and colours. A sort of visual continuity only interrupted by the carpet with contemporary graphics and an important mustard-coloured sofa with a rounded shape. The black waxed iron wall library has horizontal shelves in a wooden finish that refers to the typically modern furnishings such as the coffee table and armchairs in the study with colored padding. Even in this second room, the linear profiles of the bookcases visually fill the high ceilings walls. At the center, a modern coffee table revisited in an industrial key with the addition of important wheels.

The kitchen also shows this stylistic alternation in which the industrial style is certainly the common thread. The central island with metallic coatings has all the equipment for cooking and preparing meals. On the top a design extractor fan with dynamic shapes. The remaining part, even though it displays a stainless countertop with back surface and closing abutment of the same material, introduces lower wall units and container volumes in white matt lacquer. A contemporary style that gives further brightness. To characterize the surrounding environment, an icon of modern design: the Eames Lounge Chair. On the back, a rustic metal sliding door accompanies an important natural wood table and a suspended sideboard in warm tones.
