Bar Restaurant Pizzeria Cavandola

Bar Restaurant Pizzeria Cavandola

A multifaceted place that is a bar, restaurant, pizzeria but also home for many inhabitants and vacationers of Lizzola, a mountain town in the Bergamo area.

MEMOIRS

Vivid memories come to the mind when you think of the 80s Lizzola town, people who crowded the streets with brightly colored ski suits, heavy plastic boots that echoed with every step in the streets and those skis that had the specific weight of lead. Those who did not ski walked awkwardly in the warm Moon Boot and enjoyed a chocolate at the bar waiting for the ski-day to finish and the rest of the family to enter through the door at any moment. All holidaymakers involuntarily found themselves catapulted into a film by the Vanzina brothers with ironic gags and hilarious anecdotes to be told on their return home.

CONCEPT

Thinking of the historical context in which this place was designed, about forty years ago, we can only remember the style in force in those years: the main material was wood in its natural state, which perfectly identified the mountain environment and it transmitted that sense of warmth and “home” essential to make the space welcoming. On a project by the architect Nava, the Cavandola’s restaurant and pizzeria provided a large bar counter at the bottom and at the entrance many table islands with benches and seats for at least six diners: the mountain holiday was a time of aggregation between family and friends and it was customary to go in groups in public places, for this reason tables for couples were very rare. The central corner benches have a high back in which a planter is inserted that runs along their entire length and separates them from the table to the side, a natural soundproofing that maintains a little privacy in general chatter. On the left side there is the exposed pizza counter and in a separate room the mythical space for videogames, which at the time were very popular among young people.

MATERIALS

As we previously specified, the whole project revolved around a specific type of wood, in this case ash, in vogue at the time. The walls have respected the original color, a warm yellow, regularly maintained from year to year with new colors and also the light points are the original designs: large semi-transparent rounded chandeliers that lower from the ceiling, with warm lights, towards the center of table; while in the transit areas and recessed in the upper part of the counter rounded spotlights. Even the external Neon sign has remained the same as it once was and today, as then, it is a strong call to enter in this timeless place and enjoy a Lizzola that changes, continues to change, but remains the same in the hearts of many who have grown up with her. Thank you Marisa and family for the care you have dedicated to the Cavandola Restaurant/Pizzeria and to all the dinners, lunches and afternoon chocolates that you made us taste!

This is in turn recalled in the chromatic choice by the feet which are also made in black textured curved lacquered wood, a real tidbit. Naturalness of an office in Olive wood

Naturalness of an office in Olive wood

A creation with an antique flavor, a particular request from a customer who loves wood in its natural state.

CONTEXT and MATERIAL

We are close to “That branch of Lake Como, which turns at midday”. As in a Manzoni essay, imagining uninterrupted chains of mountains, nature is the protagonist here. Its rough trunks enter the walls of a private studio and define its rooms. The material chosen is the olive tree, knots and defects enriches this plant during the years and is characterized by a very fine texture of lighter streaks that are intertwined with decidedly darker streaks.

PROJECT

The furniture consists of a large equipped desk and a rear piece of furniture with a band of drawers and doors and a side column. The latter has internally illuminated open compartments. The olive veneer preserves its natural finish and the joints are carefully cut at 45 °. Respecting the vein of the wood, they give it a sense of continuity on each side.

Wood as an element to experiment with

Wood as an element to experiment with

Wood is a versatile, varied and extremely suitable material to be “experimented” in the most particular shapes and combinations.

THE ART OF INLAY

The skill of our craftsmen is also evident in these unusual works, which recall an art now dormant with time, the one of inlay. We are from Bergamo, wa are descendant of the best carpenters in Italy, we can enjoy every day some of the most important inlays at national level. Entering the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Città Alta is enougth and, looking at the Choir, observe the magnificent creations designed by Lorenzo Lotto. A small digression to underline these works, which request is now even more reduced, but a demostration of painstaking work, patience and dedication. Here we have created the top of a window in the living area by flanking, on all its thickness, various types of wood which are then joined with a sunburst to create the motif of a shining sun.

RAW CHANDELIER

A wooden board with its materic bark has a timeless charm. For that it’s coming back into fashion and it often happens to see, not only in the alpine environment, but also in trendy clubs or in town houses, tables in the raw state. Are exactly their characteristic bark, their knots left rough and some imperfections of the surface, such as reliefs or burrows to make them recognizable. But why not provide other furnishing elements with this particular style? Here we propose one of our laboratory experiments: a lamp with a rounded central slot that houses a strip LED and a thin, taut cable unites it gently on the ceiling. Te material we have chosen is a warm and comfortable wood, the fir. Its rough exposed veins  its natural state and the shades of the wood that lighten towards the external sides are clearly visible.

An eclectic apartment in Parisian Style

An eclectic apartment in Parisian Style

An eclectic, bohemian but also essential apartment, finds its harmony in the  Parisian style of a bygone era while being in the heart of contemporary Milan.

DEFINE THE STYLE OF A HOME CONTEXT THE PARISIAN STYLE DETAILS OUR WORK

DEFINE THE STYLE OF A HOME

The house is the mirror of the people who live there. Those who enter in our house get an idea of us even just by seeing where we live and which objects we choose, it is therefore important to bring out coherent thoughts and emotions. There are such particular environments that are really difficult to classify because they are born from people’s lives, which enrich them with objects they care of. These built an eclectic scenario which does not define a real prevailing style but give a fragmented image that can sometimes seems comfusing . To maintain a predominant and tasteful style it is always advisable to follow the basic rules of the style that fits us best. If in doubt, however, the help of a professionist never hurts.

CONTEXT

This Milan house was already starting with a precise identity: an apartment in a historic complex with distinctive flooring in elegant black and white tiles positioned at 45°, “French style” herringbone parquet and exposed ceiling beams. All the windows and doors are in classic style with raised strips and frames. A great stylistic work was carried out by Arch. Pierluigi Fasoli, who in close collaboration with the home owners gave useful advice for a small internal renovation and for the choice and insertion of new furnishings.

THE PARISIAN STYLE

Listening to customer requests, strong ideas and clear tastes emerged. The style that has been defined starts from these premises and let itself be guided by some existing furnishing elements.

The Parisian style was the solution. In fact, it is characterized by elegance and splendor, looking for luxurious furniture that give charm to the environment but without exceeding. In this case, the dark-colored velvet sofas and poufs in the living area, combined with a large shaped mirror with golden frame and the multi-arm chandelier in polished brass in the dining area are able to provide preciousness to the rooms.

Another characteristic element of this style is the mix of modern and antique furnishings, elements that belong to different eras combined in a wise way. So in fact we can see, in the dining area, chairs and table with an antique and oriental style while the sofas in the living area with shaped brass feet, clear antiques match with more modern elements, such as an essential bookcase and square crystal coffee tables.

DETAILS

The predominant colors of the Parisian style are always delicate, usually white is used allowing to give a lot of brightness to any interior, even on the grayest days. Here the white of the ceilings has been combined with a light green-gray in the bedrooms and a dove-gray in the kitchen. Note the white frame left between the color of the walls and that of the ceiling. Wall paneling are missing, but all the baseboards, window frames and classic doors have been painted in a warm white. Plaster decorations and ceiling frames have also been added in rooms where white painted wooden beams are not present.

OUR INTERVENTION

As requested by the architect, our creations, some furniture in the living area, in the kitchen, in the bathrooms and in the sleeping area, were supplied unfinished and then painted by the customer. So you can see the varnish passed by hand, with its imperfections that do not hide the essence of the wood below. For the openings and closings of the doors, brass knobs and a sort of made-to-measure wooden bolt have been chosen.
